After being home from the mission seven months, Trevor moved to Utah to continue his studies at BYU. Naturally, this meant impromptu mission parties: lasagna, hot chocolate, movies, and popcorn fights. Still, it didn’t seem anything would happen between the two.
One night, however, Martha and Trevor were busy making hot chocolate for a party and scheming how to get two of their friends to date. For some reason, the thought came to Trevor that there could be something good between Martha and him. How could that be? That was just silly. Still, the thought lingered in his mind.
After a week of thinking about it, he asked Martha on a date. The evening, which began at 4pm quickly turned into a marathon. The two caught the bus from BYU and went to Mimi’s Café for a great dinner and long conversations. Obviously, they were both nervous, wondering what the other thought. Could it be that it was just all imagined? Could it have been that Martha didn’t have any interest? Likewise, could it be that Trevor didn’t have any interest in Martha? Was this date just as friends or was this truly a date?
Dinner wasn’t the end. They went to Pier One to wander around the store, enjoying the décor and plates. They reminisced about the mission.
Then it was time to go to see “Pirates of Penzance.” It was opening night and Trevor’s little sister Ashley was staring in it as Mable. The show offered plenty of laughs and stimulated good conversations. Unbeknownst to each of them, they were each secretly stealing glances at the other throughout the show.
To celebrate the show, Martha and Trevor continued their date and went with the cast to Chili’s. Having eaten a large meal, neither really had much appetite but gave in for their cravings for chocolate. They shared a molten chocolate cake.
At this point, it was midnight. Normally, this would have been a good time to conclude the date, but they continued. Of course, they did so with a warning from Ashley that Trevor had better not smell like Martha the next day. Being that it was a Friday evening, they could spend the evening together until 1:30am. They continued their date at Trevor’s apartment and played Uno, a mission favorite.
Finally, they finished their date when Trevor walked Martha home.
On his way home, Trevor reflected on the evening, humming “Once upon a dream” to himself. For many days after, the song played over and over in his mind to the point that he woke up singing the song.
